It’s a beautiful mid-October day, and the yield monitor is reading 269 bushels per acre. For David Muller and his family’s farming operation, this number represents more than just a good harvest, it’s validation of a season-long crop management approach that started at planting and continued through late-season fungicide applications.
Riding along in the combine during harvest offers a unique perspective. You can finally see the results of every decision made throughout the year.
Building the Foundation: In-Furrow and Starter Applications
The Muller operation doesn’t leave anything to chance at planting. This corn received a layered nutrient approach right from the start.
In-furrow, they applied ADRENALINE® to jumpstart early root development and plant establishment. In the 2×2 placement, they ran Upward® alongside zinc building a nutrient foundation designed to support the plant through its critical early growth stages.
That early investment sets the tone for everything that follows.
First Post-Pass: ARCHITECH® Takes the Stage
When it came time for the first post-emergence application, the Mullers turned to ARCHITECH, a product David actually helped field test during its development.
“I would not spray my first post-pass without it,” David says. “The foliar nutrient components are great, but then you combine the PGRs that it has in it, it just really gives the corn a great boost.”
ARCHITECH is built as a 10-5-5 with a micronutrient package designed to support photosynthesis and plant function. The PGR components, including GABA, signal the plant to reduce stress response while building a larger “plant factory.” Essentially helping the crop make better use of the fertilizer it’s receiving.
The Mullers ran ARCHITECH on both corn and soybeans. As David puts it: “We would not spray without it.”
The Payoff: Managing What You Can Control
Mother nature throws a wrench into plans every chance she gets. But the Muller operation proves that consistent, intentional crop management makes a difference, even in tough years.
At 269 bushels per acre field average, they’re knocking on the door of 270 in conditions that challenged growers across the region.
“The thing about the Mullers and their farming operation is they truly manage their crops because they understand the importance,” says Gunther with AgXplore. “It’s a big investment, and we want to make sure we do everything we can.”
That’s the mindset that separates good years from great ones.
